I’m starting to feel a bit nervous for the DALF. I ordered a review book; hopefully it will get here promptly as I start preparing.
What is the DALF, you may ask? The DELF/DALF includes a series of standardized language tests associated with the French government. There are several test centres in Canada (see list), and the tests are administered 3x/year. It’s not too late for the upcoming one in early June! The tests measure all four basic language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Why take a test?
Everyone is different, but here are my reasons for pursuing the DALF:
- Easier to quantify proficiency on resumé (“fluent” or “proficient” are subjective)
- B2/C1 open doors to master’s programs
- Motivation to improve/maintain my French
- Personal goal and genuine curiosity
- The results don’t expire, and I’m able to take it right after an intensive French program
Will it be the end of the world if I don’t get it this time? No. However, it’s fairly expensive, and if I get my act together with practice questions I think it should be doable. My current studies at Explore should help too… On va voir!
